About Donna Koontz

I currently teach Early Childhood Education courses at Westcliff University, review existing courses for academic rigor, and support curriculum redesign initiatives. With over 40 years in education, including extensive experience in Montessori leadership, inclusion, trauma-informed practice, and community engagement, I am passionate about strengthening programs that prepare thoughtful, competent educators. My work focuses on elevating curriculum quality, deepening reflective practice, and ensuring that early childhood education remains developmentally grounded, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of children and families.As a Montessori leader and lifelong inclusion advocate, I’ve spent the better part of my life supporting children, families, and educators across a wide range of environments. Through my work at The Nurtured Family, I provide compassionate parent support, including postpartum care, newborn care, guidance rooted in Montessori and RIE principles, and nourishing Ayurvedic-inspired meals that help families thrive. My experience spans teaching in Montessori classrooms through the elementary years, directing programs, crafting curriculum and professional development opportunities, and bringing music education to children as a way to foster joy, confidence, and connection. I serve as a college instructor working with incarcerated individuals, helping them strengthen their parenting skills and build healthier family relationships. I also serve as an AMS Montessori teacher trainer, connecting individuals to the wonder and beauty of Montessori practices. Across all of my roles, my purpose remains the same: to create inclusive, nurturing spaces where every child, every individual, and every family can flourish.
