Work Process Optimization (WPO), what is it, and how does it fit into any organization? WPO is the automation of any process or procedure that takes an extensive amount of time doing repetitive manual tasks to complete. For example, lets look at the process of compiling, cleansing, consolidating, assimilation, and aggregation of data for a monthly report. Data may be pulled from multiple sources internally, or externally (down loads, extracts), and in multiple formats (CSV, XLS, XLSX, XML, TXT, Etc.). Many staff members take hours if not days to manually manipulate, and massage, copy and paste, reselect data ranges, recreate pivot tables, and recreate charts and graphs from this data. These redundant tasks can be fully automated with the correct choice in a software platform, bringing all these steps down to a few mouse clicks. We had an individual that four score cards for nursing management at three of our eight hospitals. She would download data from our outside patient survey company and then spend 4-5 days copying and pasting the data into the score cards. Once automated, the scorecards took four mouse clicks and less than 2 minutes to complete.Database and graphical dashboard, design, and implementation across all care sites for concurrent and after discharge review of core measure criteria, patient safety practices, and many other processes and procedures leading to best practices for patient care, safety and satisfaction.Patient analytics is one of the hottest topics in healthcare today.
