About Donald Werner
When I joined the United States Air Force, I didn\'t choose a career, I was given one and what an opportunity it has been. The Air Force decided that I would become an Electrical Systems Apprentice, which set me on the path to a career I truly love. With the Air Force I was able to travel the world to do electrical and construction work. I have built and wired buildings in Iraq, Kuwait, Germany and Portugal. I have wired buildings in Las Vegas, Shreveport, Wichita Falls, and Tampa. The trials of a military career and deployment have given me great resolve, problem solving skills and leadership. Having helped complete some buildings in the Air Force and working through the inspection, punch list and commissioning process I decided that I wanted to be a Project Manager. I left the Air Force and started my new journey in Construction Management. I started at an electrical contractor, moved my up to general contracting and now act as an owner Senior Project Manager. I am always pursuing new training, new better methods to build, and better ways to transform construction into a team effort. Currently working on an MS in Occupational Safety and Health, I am always seeking additional safety training opportunities. My passions are safety, project management, and technology, the construction industry needs these badly. I want to help move the construction industry into the 21st century by applying safety culture, risk managment, LEAN, and PMI methodologies to improve safety, processes, and customer satisfaction.
Experience
Senior Project Manager
Feb 2023 — Present
Providing owner project management for 3 large IT infrastructure modernization projects in support of VA\'s national Electronic Health Records Management upgrades. These projects provide new cabling, IT spaces, rack space, new three phase power, cooling, and UPS to support 10/1 GB LAN connections throughout the VA Fort Meade Campus. These projects require coordination with local IT staff, staff, safety, and contractors as all work is performed while the hospital is operational and cannot interfere with operations.
