About Donald Pell
In one way or another, plants and landscapes have been a compelling part of my life for as long as I can remember. In my formative years, I found great delight mucking about in local creeks and exploring agrarian-edge woodlands that I imagined were primeval forests. I vividly remember the fields of grasses—head high with their breathtaking amber glow of autumn obscuring my view. It felt adventurous, like blazing a trail into the unknown. The days helping in my mother’s nursery and gardens were equally satisfying. There was magic in seeing ribbons of flowers emerging from billowy prairie grasses, and stumbling upon the imperfect perfection of gnarly tree forms. Thirty years later, I am still enamored with the journey.
