About Don Freeman
I’m a hands-on tech leader with a deep-rooted passion for building, from physical infrastructure in my early days to modern software systems that power today’s most ambitious startups. Currently Director of Engineering at SonarX, I lead high-performing teams and architect resilient blockchain infrastructure, helping position the company at the forefront of Web3 innovation. My path to tech leadership has been unconventional but intentional: after 17 years at Duke Energy developing enterprise-scale systems and leading cross-functional teams, I pivoted into startup engineering to be closer to the code and innovation cycle.I bring a rare blend of executive vision and deep technical execution. I still actively contribute to the codebase and stay involved in critical system architecture decisions. My expertise spans AWS serverless architecture, distributed systems, and full-stack development across Python, Java, Angular, and various database paradigms. Whether I’m mentoring engineers, collaborating with product, or rolling up my sleeves to ship code, I’m driven by impact and team growth. Outside of work, I’m a lifelong builder at heart, something I picked up from working in my father’s construction business.
