SKILLS
ABOUT DOMENICO CAPOLONGO
I am an Associate Professor of Physical Geography and Geomorphology at the University of Bari Aldo Moro, specializing in understanding and predicting the processes that shape Earth’s surface and drive environmental risk. My work sits at the intersection of geosciences, geospatial technologies, and data-driven innovation, with a strong focus on real-world impact.I help researchers, institutions, and decision-makers analyze landscape evolution, assess environmental hazards, and support sustainable land-use planning through quantitative, technology-enabled approaches. My core expertise includes hydro-geomorphological risk assessment, soil erosion modeling, and disaster risk reduction, supported by advanced use of GIS, remote sensing, and Digital Terrain Modeling (DTM). I also apply UAV (drone) sensing to capture high-resolution spatial data for precision monitoring of active geomorphological processes.Driven by the opportunities of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, I integrate machine learning techniques to build predictive models for hazard mapping and landscape classification, transforming complex environmental datasets into actionable insights. I also explore blockchain applications to enhance data integrity, transparency, and traceability in environmental monitoring and natural resource management.Beyond academia, I work as an International Research Consultant, collaborating globally on geospatial innovation projects. I am deeply committed to mentoring early-career scientists and building international partnerships that advance Earth Surface Processes research.I welcome conversations around research collaboration, applied geospatial solutions, AI in environmental sciences, and innovative monitoring frameworks. d••••••••@uniba.itt Scientific Portfolio: & hl=it & oi=ao
