ABOUT DESMOND MCGLONE

I am a dynamic, engaging, and culturally-centered mathematics educator and researcher who enjoys the exchange of learning with all levels of students. I am skilled in implementing educational technologies and I enjoy developing the grit and mental strength that the rigor of mathematics learning can bring. Teaching is not only a joy for me but a passion that I find refreshing. My desire is that in my lifetime of teaching, learning, and serving, I can reach as many individuals as possible and make their mathematical learning experience one full of joy. I am an educator because the world is bigger than me and my personal endeavors : I want to speak for those who have no voice and stand up for those who are downtrodden especially those who don’t have access to quality mathematics experiences. I stand for developing critical thinking within my students and questioning the world\'s structures quantitatively and qualitatively. My life is one that finds delight in exposing inequity and inaccessibility in mathematics education and bringing a salve that ensures that \"each and every\" single student of mathematics can be enveloped by: i) rigor, ii) personal connection, joy, and iv) a passion that will drive them to emulate and do bigger works than myself. I want to change the world and, more importantly, I want my students to change the world. I am currently pursuing my PhD in mathematics education with a secondary focus on graduate mathematics and research centered around black girls’ identity and the endeavor of humanizing black girls in mathematics spaces.#culture #math #learning #joy
