ABOUT DOUGLAS KIRSCH

Dr. Kirsch is a board-certified Neurologist and Sleep Medicine Specialist who is Medical Director of Atrium Health Sleep Medicine and a Clinical Professor in the Department of Neurology at the Wake Forest School of Medicine.He is a past president of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM)(20••••19), a past member of the AASM Board of Directors (20••••20), past president of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies (APSS)(20••••20) as well as the past program chair for the SLEEP meeting in 2012 and 2013 and Chair of AASM Sleep Medicine Trends in 2023-5. He is an expert in many areas of sleep medicine, though his clinical focus is primarily on obstructive sleep apnea. He has been heavily focused on physician education in Sleep Medicine throughout his career and has spoken at many regional and national meetings on a variety of sleep medicine topics, including disruption in Sleep Medicine and consumer product use in Sleep Medicine. He has many academic publications and co-authored several books relating to Sleep Medicine.He trained at the Department of Neurology at the University of Rochester and at the Sleep Disorders Center at the University of Michigan. Previously a faculty member at University of Michigan (2005-6), he returned to his home town of Boston in 2006, where he was an Instructor at Harvard Medical School, the Associate Director of the Brigham and Women’s Sleep Medicine fellowship program, and Assistant Director of the Brigham and Women’s Hospital Sleep Disorders Service. As well, he was the President of the Massachusetts Sleep Society (20••••14). He moved to Charlotte, NC at the end of 2014 to take on a new challenge as the Medical Director of Atrium Health/CHS Sleep Medicine, overseeing sleep medicine across more than 40 hospitals in the system.
