About David Geaney
An outsider reviewing my professional achievements, academic background, and community involvement might wonder where they all intersect and how they compliment each other. Over the last eleven years I have managed groups of trained logisticians ranging in size from 5 to 200, leading increasingly complex programs and processes in locations stateside and abroad. At the same time, I have complimented my Bachelor’s in Chinese with a Master’s in International Relations, while publishing on Sino-American relations in multiple outlets. I led Red Cross distribution operations in Houston after Hurricane Harvey, started SpeakVet to help transitioning military find jobs post-service, and was the keynote speaker for an AmeriCorps cohort’s graduation. These disparate activities are demonstrative of my priorities and my professional and personal ambitions. My 13 years of experience working within the Department of Defense and my countless coordinations with external government and non-government entities alike have given me a well-rounded comprehension of U.S. government and partner capabilities. Managing logistics operations and interacting with local officials and populations in countries like Laos, Korea, Qatar, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and Jordan has given me perspective on areas where the U.S. or other entities can make the most impact. As the U.S. enters a new era of great power competition with China, it is increasingly essential for government leaders to leverage our country’s unique capabilities, applying them where they are most impactful and when they will receive the greatest reception. My ambition is to help drive a change in the U.S. government to invest in and harness our immense logistics capabilities to help other countries, which will have the simultaneous benefit of blunting China’s ability to drive their own agenda and remake the international system.
