About Divya Bhatia
Divya started her research on the immunology of kidney diseases a decade ago. Her current research interests are to understand the pathogenesis of kidney fibrosis and the role of mitochondrial autophagy in macrophage reprogramming. She intends to study the underlying molecular regulation of mitophagy in the manipulation of immune subsets and its role in the progression of chronic kidney disease. As a postdoc at Weill Cornell Medicine, she extended her Ph.D. research on Th1/Th2 lymphocytes to M1/M2 macrophages as the M1/M2 macrophages are derived from Th1/Th2 cell-specific cytokines. Her Ph.D. publication was featured on the cover page of the journal (Bhatia et al. Pediatr Res. Her current work has been focused on the functions of mitophagy in macrophages in mouse and human kidney fibrosis. She determined the cytoprotective role of mitophagy against profibrotic/M2 macrophage facilitated kidney fibrogenesis and studied its molecular regulation (Bhatia et al; JCI Insight, 2019). Most recently she uncovered the macrophage-specific protective functions of mitofusin-2 against kidney fibrosis (Bhatia et al; Kidney Int, 2022). Her Ph.D. work resulted in seven publications and from the postdoc work, she has so far published 10 articles in peer-reviewed journals, including 6 research papers, 3 reviews, and a book chapter. She is Topic Editor at Cells MDPI, where she is also Guest Editing for a special issue. She is an Associate Guest Editor at Frontiers in Pharmacology. She is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Life Sciences, CPQ Medicine, and Journal of Nephrology Advances and part of the Reviewer Board of the Current Trends in Inflammation Research. She has reviewed at least 65 manuscripts and regularly reviews for several journals (https://publons.com/researcher/15•••41/divya-bhatia/). She is a member of the American Society of Nephrology, American Association for the Advancement of Science, The New York Academy of Sciences, and a former Associate Member of the American Association of Immunology.
