About Divaa Uthkarsha

As a social entrepreneur and advocate for equitable healthcare, especially for children living with type 1 diabetes - I founded Project Surya, one of India’s largest youth-led non-profits in this space, after my younger brother’s diagnosis, and I’ve since worked with global organisations and grassroots communities to bring awareness + access + support to thousands.Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to receive recognition from the Diana Award, Rise Global, the World Sustainability Award and the Royal Commonwealth Society, among others. I was named one of the Top 10 finalists worldwide for the Global Student Prize as the only one representing India (0.09% acceptance), and I currently serve as a Senior Fellow at the Los Altos Institute, leading its Global Health Policy sector. My work has been featured in CNN, NDTV, The Hindu, Deccan Herald, Femina and The Week Magazine and I’ve also spoken at Asia’s largest TEDx event! I’ve got to work on awesome stuff at a Forbes recognised biotech startup at the Bangalore Bioinnovation Centre as an intern, the Karnataka Institute of Endocrinology and Research and the Indian Institute of Science, Education and Research. I’ve spoken at the United Nations Headquarters, worked with UN Women and the Commission on the Status of Women, served on the G20 Y20 Task Force and continue to mentor and amplify the voices of young changemakers through the 1M1B Youth Advisory Board.
