ABOUT DIONE ERVIN
As a graduate of NYU’s Gallatin School of Individualized Study, my concentration integrates Music Publishing and Critical Race Studies. My academic work focuses on how Black musicians navigate the entertainment industry, highlighting the systemic barriers they face. Through my studies, I’ve analyzed themes such as The Natural Hair Movement, westernized beauty standards, Black capitalism and entrepreneurship, racial opposition, and the role of music in curating cultural identity. By engaging in coursework spanning Black studies, gender studies, music composition, and music business, I’ve developed a nuanced understanding of how these elements shape artistic expression, storytelling, and the music industry. Professionally, I’ve had the privilege of contributing to the music industry through various dynamic roles. At Third Side Music, I curated playlists and pitched music for film and TV placements, sharpening my expertise in sync licensing and creative collaboration. During my time at Paramount Pictures, I worked closely with the Paramount Music Creative Team on upcoming projects, further refining my skills in music marketing and placement strategy. Beyond my industry experience, I bring a robust foundation in music composition and over a decade of advanced jazz piano training. My skills extend to music theory, aural comprehension, and performance, complemented by two years of hands-on experience in music technology, including audio engineering, mixing, mastering, and songwriting. These multifaceted abilities allow me to approach music as both an art and a tool for emotional resonance in film. I am eager to continue contributing to the film music industry through roles in sync licensing, music publishing, music creation, radio, and music marketing. I am particularly passionate about leveraging music to elevate diverse voices and craft powerful stories within the cinematic landscape.
