A Professional Firefighter with 25 yrs. of service before retiring at the rank of Battalion Chief I’ve been in construction for over 40 yrs. Originally from the Chicago area I had worked as a consultant in Louisville KY and Kansas City MO before moving to Washington DC, where I managed safety on major projects for companies like Clark Construction and Whiting Turner just to name a couple. For the last 5 yrs. I was Safety Director for a Structural Steel company. I was responsible for maintaining safety on multi-million-dollar projects spread throughout the DC Metro area, that included Virginia and Maryland. In my career I have managed and guided safety on projects totaling more than 1 billion dollars. All without major or catastrophic injury. My approach to safety is not that of a “Safety Cop” but that as a mentor. Having actually worked in the field and having been involved with the chaotic aftermath of an injury as a firefighter, and years of honing my safety acumen, I bring a calm and deliberate approach to safety programs, while focusing on training, and teaching, with an emphasis on the human side of workers as well as the need to protect companies from exposure and financial loss.
