ABOUT DING DING ZHENG

I take pride in my ability to take on new knowledge and learn new technical skills, and I see myself as a generalist who can pivot and transfer skills to new roles and responsibilities. I am skilled at wearing multiple hats and jumping in to assist where help is needed. I delight in working as a part of a team, and I have extensive experience taking independent action and problem solving with little to guidance. For example, in July and August 2017, respectively, when I worked as the Coordinator for the U.S. Department of Education (ED)-sponsored TRIO program at ASU, the director and administrative assistant left the TRIO program (which has only three professional staff positions within the department). This meant that I, alone, remained at the start of the 17-18 academic year to run the program for a few months. In addition to my normal responsibilities, I also had to swiftly assume many of the functions and duties of the other two staff positions during this period. By setting and adjusting priorities, assigning tasks strategically, and collaborating with colleagues, I successfully oversaw the TRIO program and continued to provide excellent service during this high-pressure period. Moreover, as the Coordinator of the NSF NRT grant project at ASU, I manage the daily operations of this program. Due to the schedule constraints of the current PI, I construct creative solutions and execute program functions independently with minimal guidance, and I work to ensure that key NRT objectives are accomplished with excellence in accordance with priorities, timeframes and constraints, budgets and funding parameters, and strategic plans. Additionally, my eleven years of progressively responsible experience in higher education have honed my skills involving: program/project management, especially of technical/scientific endeavors; grant management; proposal development; implementation; data collection; analytics; records maintenance and reporting; copywriting and editing; faculty, student, and stakeholder engagement; public speaking; professionalism with the ability to work under pressure; staff supervision; administrative duties; targeted and transformative customer service; and collaborating with various departments, units, and community partners. My ambition now is to be more impactful through my various skills and strengths, be it grant/program management, project coordination, event planning, relationship building, faculty/student support and training, content writing, proposal writing, or other methods of communication.
