ABOUT DIMA B. AL MUNAJED
I am a dedicated social researcher and advocate, focusing on gender, development, and conflict, with a particular emphasis on the application of feminist approaches to explore the links between them in contemporary Arab contexts. I am passionate about advancing knowledge, equity, and diversity in academia and beyond, and I actively contribute to the development of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies, procedures, and frameworks in higher education. Currently, I serve as the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Coordinator at the Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies (BCDSS) at the University of Bonn. Additionally, I am one of the founders of Better Architecture, a nonprofit organization that promotes knowledge exchange in architecture and sustainable urban planning. Our work primarily supports young Syrian architects in both Germany and Syria, with the ultimate goal of contributing to the reconstruction efforts in Syria by empowering the next generation of Syrian architects. My academic journey culminated in a PhD in Development Studies, where I investigated the intersection of conflict, identity, and civic engagement among Syrian refugee women. I hold an MSc in Sustainable Development from Imperial College London and SOAS, and a BA in Political Studies from the American University of Beirut.
