ABOUT DIGVIJAY REWATKAR
I am an international lawyer with over eight years of experience advising governments, international organizations, and academic institutions on issues at the intersection of natural resource governance, international law, and global security. My expertise lies in the governance of the global commons—particularly deep seabed resources, marine genetic resources, and other areas beyond national jurisdiction—where questions of property rights, benefit-sharing, and compliance frameworks are becoming increasingly urgent.Having served with the United Nations International Law Commission, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and leading academic centers, I bring a unique blend of legal expertise, policy insight, and diplomatic engagement. My recent work on seabed mining, subsea infrastructure, and interactions between environmental, security, and maritime regimes has sharpened my focus on the design of regulatory and compliance strategies for sustainable and equitable use of shared resources. My professional aspiration is to build a consultancy and advisory practice that supports governments, international organizations, and private sector stakeholders in navigating the legal, economic, and security dimensions of natural resource governance in areas beyond national jurisdiction. By combining legal analysis with economic reasoning and policy application, I aim to develop innovative solutions that promote sustainability, equity, and resilience in managing the global commons.Ultimately, my goal is to help shape frameworks that balance development and conservation while strengthening international cooperation—ensuring that resources in areas beyond national jurisdiction remain a shared heritage for future generations.
