ABOUT DICK WILLIS
I have had a varied, portfolio career which has included extensive work in secondary and post-16 education, training and development consultantancy, work with the UK Business Support community, and policy research work. I am now semi-retired and work part time for a national provider of fire safety and health and safety services as well as conducting project evaluations. I have an enduring interest in the use of ICT to support distributed working and, in particular, in the ways in which the skills necessary for this mode of working are taught in our schools or, as is probably more accurate, are not taught. I have extensive project planning, management and evaluation experience, much of it acquired through my parallel career as a cave explorer. I have participated as a team member or leader in numerous expeditions, particularly in the arc of countries from Central Asia, through China and down to New Guinea. I have a 40 year focus on the giant caves of Borneo. I am a Churchill Fellow and hold the RGS Ness Award. Until recently, I was a Trustee of the Youth Education Service, a Bristol based charity that provides informal learning opportunities to young people and adults.
