About Dick Davis
Dick Davis is the Executive Director/CEO of the Kyoto Prize Symposium (Kyoto Symposium Organization), which he has served since 2004. The Kyoto Prize Symposium is a week long North American celebration in San Diego of the lives and works of those receiving the Kyoto Prize. This is the only opportunity for Americans to see all new Kyoto Prize Laureates together (apart from Kyoto in November)- to learn of their achievements and contributions to mankind. The Kyoto Prize is a preeminent international award created by Japan\'s Inamori Foundation to honor those who have contributed significantly to humankind\'s scientific and cultural betterment. The prize is awarded annually in the fields of Advanced Technology, Basic Sciences and Arts & Philosophy. Since 1985 Kyoto prizes have been awarded to 108 Laureates from 17 countries - ranging from scientists, engineers and researchers to architects, artists, musicians and film directors. In addition to their prize medal, Laureates receive a \"diploma\" created each year - and the award of yen The next Kyoto Prize Symposium will be held March 17-19, 2020 in San Diego. In addition to the Inamori Foundation and the Kyoto Symposium Organization (KSO), other North American co-hosts for the U.S. symposium week are local universities, including the University of California-San Diego, the University of San Diego and Point Loma Nazarene University. The Inamori Foundation was founded and endowed by Dr. Kazuo Inamori - the founder of Kyocera Corporation, co-founder of KDDI, and until recently the Chairman of Japan Airlines. University of Oxford hosts the Symposium for Europe in May. Directly and via the Inamori Foundation, KSO has been responsible for $3 million in college scholarship grants to high school seniors in San Diego and Tijuana.
