About Brad Dicianno
As a physiatrist (physician specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation), I specialize in treating people with severe disabilities including Spina Bifida and have one of the largest clinics for adults with this condition in the U.S. I also specialize in assistive technologies such as wheelchairs and mobility devices, augmentative communication, environmental control and computer access devices. I am the Medical Director of the VA Center on Wheelchairs and Rehabilitation Engineering and Medical Director and COO of the Human Engineering Research Laboratories. As a bioengineer and having been an NIH fellow in the Rehabilitation Medicine Scientist Training Program, I conduct independent research in the field of rehabilitation medicine and oversee the internal operations of our Center and Labs. My main research interests include using mobile health to enhance health, advanced wheelchair technology, skin pressure injuries, and medical complications in Spina Bifida. I also have extensive experience in design and implementation of electronic medical records for clinical practice and research.I direct the Rehabilitation Research Experience for Medical Students (RREMS), a national scholarship program and am the Director of Medical Student Education for my department at UPMC. I am actively involved in medical student and resident education at the University of Pittsburgh and am Assistant Dean for Medical Student Research at the School of Medicine. I am interested in consulting opportunities, new research collaborations, partnerships with industry, scientific grant review, and publication collaborations.
