ABOUT DIANEY LEAL
As a former GEAR UP high school student, McNair scholar, and the daughter of migrant farmworkers, I understand first-hand the important work it takes to help students navigate their postsecondary decision-making process. The underlying question that informs my scholarship and practice is how might power structures, policies, and practices embedded within students’ various contexts shape their educational experiences and perceptions? My areas of research and experience include 1) college access; 2) college preparation policies and programs; and 3) power structures and governance on the trajectories, experiences, and opportunities of historically underserved and underrepresented students. Ultimately, my work seeks to inform the development of higher education policies and practices to improve the educational conditions of all students.
