Accessibility Manager - Smithsonian Folklife Festival

Working on seasonal contract with the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage to provide coordination and implementation of accessibility for in-person, virtual, and hybrid festivals celebrating living cultural heritage. Festival projects include the annual Smithsonian Folklife Festival (20••••25), as well as special events in conjunction with other Smithsonian units-including \"Freedom Sounds\" commemorating the grand opening of the National Museum of African-American History and Culture; and \"IlluminAsia\" commemorating the re-opening of the National Museum of Asian Art. Festivals welcome up to visitors daily to the National Mall in Washington DC. Responsibilities include: Collaborating with staff, contractors, volunteers, vendors, and project partners to encourage a mindset of inclusive design within all programming, policy, and practices of the Festival. Management of all onsite accessibility services including ASL interpreters, audio description, and real-time captioning for multiple performance stages, artisan demonstration areas, and purchase points within the Festival site. Supporting the inclusion of all Festival visitors, staff, and participants through services, provided resources, and special programs throughout the Festival day. Development and management of accessibility support services (including ASL interpretation and real-time captioning) for online and hybrid programming on various virtual platforms. Design and implementation of messaging and outreach to welcome disabled and Deaf communities throughout DC metro region and beyond to engage with Festival programming onsite and online. Consultation on the design, development, and implementation of select Festival and Center initiatives and programs relating to disability access and inclusion.
