About Dhiraj Agarwal

Dr. Agarwal pursued his PhD in health science at Savitribai Phule Pune University after completing his graduation. As a health scientist with a background in interdisciplinary health science, he began his postgraduate journey at the Interdisciplinary School of Health Science. Joining the Vadu Rural Health Program, KEM Hospital Research Centre (VRHP, KEMHRC) in July 2007 marked the start of his professional growth. His research work and experience have primarily focused on community based studies with special emphasis on respiratory health. He was awarded an NIHR-RESPIRE Post-Doctoral Fellowship, during which he collaborated with general practitioners in Pune to explore their perspectives on the diagnosis and treatment of lung problems. He also received the NIHR-ISARIC Fellowship in which he has explored the potential of digital health interventions for health care providers in community based settings by engaging with different levels of stakeholders. Over the years, he has honed his expertise in mixed methods through diverse experiences, including participation in effectiveness trials, implementation studies, and epidemiological surveys. Additionally, he has developed skills in project management, fieldwork supervision, scientific writing, and presentation. He has actively participated in national and international conferences such as IPCRG and ERS. He plays a crucial role in academic supervision and mentorship, serving as a PhD supervisor at Savitribai Phule Pune University and guiding seven PhD candidates in their research pursuits. He has also actively mentored both graduate and undergraduate students. To date, he has contributed significantly to over 30 research studies and has published 50 research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Recently, he has taken on the role of Principal Investigator for the Vadu Health and Demographic Surveillance System at the VRHP, KEMHRC. Overall, Dr. Dhiraj Agarwal is a distinguished health scientist with extensive experience in respiratory health research, project management, and academic coordination. His contributions to research, mentorship, and collaborative initiatives make him a valuable asset to the field of public health research.
