Experience

  1. Technical Fellow

    Microsoft

    Jan 1998 — Present

Contributed to a number projects at Microsoft.1) Founded Singularity (arxiv paper -> https://lnkd.in/dgHiruYj)- a globally distributed, multi-tenant AI infrastructure service for cost effective, large-scale AI training and inferencing. With its novel workload and topology aware, preemptive scheduler, the system can transparently preempt, elastically scale and load balance the AI workloads to drive the highest utilization without impacting the correctness, reliability, or performance at the scale of 100s of thousands of AI accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs). 2) Conceived, built and ran Cosmos DB (http://cosmosdb.com)- a novel globally distributed database and one of the fastest growing Azure services. Cosmos DB is designed to elastically and independently scale throughput and storage across any number of datacenters with industry leading SLAs and five well-defined consistency models to developers. Cosmos DB is used ubiquitously inside Microsoft and by external Azure customers worldwide. 3) Azure - Designed and implemented a multi-tenant hosting infrastructure and a CLR based programming model for micro-services which paved the foundation for the PaaS services on Azure. 4) Live Mesh - Designed and implemented the peer-to-peer sync and storage runtimes.5) Project Courier - Built cloud services for device management and storage.6) Windows Workflow - Created an extensible CLR based workflow runtime and a programming model with distributed, serializable continuations. Co-founded the technology; designed the system; implemented key components of the engine, including the support for compensating transactions and the scheduler; and led the project from an incubation to a successful V1 technology shipping as part of Windows, Microsoft 365, and Dynamics. 7) BizTalk - Led the developer experience for XLANG/S language, and programming model for BizTalk\'s messaging system.
