ABOUT DANIEL P. GROSS
Daniel P. Gross (Dan) is an associate professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and an expert in innovation strategy and policy. His research spans three verticals for innovation-driven change: economic, health, and national security. He is an expert in both (i) the history, organization, and performance of the U.S. innovation system, with a subspecialization in crisis innovation (i.e, innovation targeting large, urgent problems like wars or pandemics), and (ii) the adoption and impacts of new production technologies-especially automation. His research has been published in leading academic journals, reported by numerous international media outlets, and presented to or cited by a wide range of policymakers (e.g, the White House, Department of Defense, and United Nations). He received his Ph.D. in economics from the University of California, Berkeley in 2015 after working in the private sector.He has taught MBA Strategy at Duke and at Harvard Business School, to both daytime MBA students and mid-career executives; written case studies for business education; and lectured regularly on his research to academics, practitioners, and policy audiences.
