About Daniel Hudkins
For the last twenty-five years I have been active in the realm of education and technology. Along the way, I\'ve made my share of mistakes and received my share of kudos. Throughout the process though, the central tenets have always been that \"young people matter\" and \"it\'s about the learning.\" I have enjoyed working with others at a wide variety of schools and have been privileged to grow up with the field as it has begun to divide between traditional IT and a newer view of pedagogy and learning. I still keep a foot in both worlds. As a CIO in an educational institution, the focus was on three broad areas: Learning, Productivity, Security. Those goals were primarily met down two separate but overlapping pathways. Information Technology path: Led implementation of an ITIL based service management scheme for improving customer service from and management of the IT department Managed implementation of a district wide network implementation Led an integration project covering systems from finance to student information systems Developed and implemented processes for integrating data that improve accuracy and reduce effort Academic path: Led implementation of high school and middle school 1:1 laptop programs including the first cross-platform BYOD program in the US Led implementation of elementary Chromebook program Assisted in the development and implementation of a K-12 digital literacy curriculum As a consultant I have: Presented frequently on effective use of technology in education including keynoting the Lausanne Laptop Institute twice as well as presenting at ATLIS, McAuliffe, Anytime Anywhere Learning and other conferences. Audited other independent school 1:1 programs Specialties: Application selection, data systems intengration, customization, program design, management, and implementation Leading student, teacher, and administrative teams to determine how best to apply technology to education.
