About Dexter Barton

I am a sophomore at Duke pursuing a B.A. in Public Policy alongside a minor in Finance and a certificate in Energy. I am excited to merge my qualitative and quantitative backgrounds to tackle complex interdisciplinary problems. I\'m especially interested in venture capital and management consulting—fields where I can blend analytical rigor with creative thinking.At Duke, I prepared a case study on sustainable CRE to earn an analyst position with the Real Estate Club, led a stock pitch to score in the top 5% of the Investor Training Program through the Investment Club, regularly film and edit basketball videos for Duke Student Broadcasting (ask me about getting dunked on by Cooper Flagg!), and volunteer with Special Olympics year-round. I also joined Our Urban Future Club where I participate in workshops, panels, and networking events focused on the intersection of real estate, urban planning, and sustainable development.At Fieldston High School, I was elected by my classmates to represent them in Student Government, led my school to the playoffs as the starting quarterback of the varsity football team, and served as editor-in-chief of the Sports Bulletin and founder of the French Club. Through advisory challenges, French film nights, and rivalry homecoming wins, I sought countless ways to bring our school together. I\'m particularly proud of founding the Lunchtime Alumni Talks series. From AI lawyers to music video producers, the initiative continues to bring back dozens of extraordinary mentors to inspire and guide the next generation of Fieldston graduates.I also hold a deep passion for the French language and non-profit work. Growing up in West Harlem, I volunteered at the French American Charter School using my bilingual skills to teach STEM after school programs in both French and English. I studied abroad in Rennes, France before my junior year in high school, and lived in Tunisia for three months studying French at L\'Institut Français de Tunisie. I also volunteered at multiple orphanages and schools during my time there, teaching both French and English to students.
