ABOUT DEV SHARMA
Dev Sharma is a 21-year-old food activist, former Youth MP and a founding youth campaigner at Bite Back 2030. He has led impactful campaigns, including the UK’s first online junk food marketing ban and advocating for free school meals alongside Marcus Rashford, earning him a Diana Award and recognition from the Speaker of the House of Commons. In 2024, he chaired the UK Parliament’s Youth Select Committee into the cost of living crisis.By 15, Dev helped spark the child food poverty campaign Marcus Rashford led in 2020. Dev has delivered a Food Charter to no. 10 Downing Street, met with a number of key influential cabinet ministers and Labour leader Keir Starmer, and won the lauded Diana Award for his food poverty activism. Dev has been a powerful voice for youth on issues such as holiday hunger and Free School Meals. drawing on his own experiences at school to speak on behalf of his peers.Dev then began the campaign for the worlds first total online ban in junk food marketing, starting an online open letter campaign to Boris Johnson (then Prime Minister) so that young people in his community could choose the food THEY wanted without the nonstop corporate pressure. His campaign was so successful, in June 2021, it was included by the government into the Queen\'s speech, after the campaign was supported by celebrities such as Jamie Oliver and other food charities. He is the only person in Youth Parliament history to be elected consecutively from two different constituncies. Previously the Youth MP of Leicester (20••••22), then the City of Winchester (20••••24). He is an ambassador for the Food Foundation and its Children\'s Right2Food iniative, as well as a Core Group Member of Act4Food Act4Change. He is also an ambassador for Akshaya Patra and sits on the Advisory Board for the charity EAT.Devs’ campaigning work has won him international acclaim, winning applause from Jamie Oliver and Dame Emma Thompson. Recently he has spoken at the UN in New York, the Despatch Box of the House of Commons and on the UNICEF Instagram channels. His work has garnered over 1.5 million views and 200k likes on various social media platforms.
