About Devon Woods
Starting my educational journey at Georgia State University as an addition to the freshmen class of 2017, I arrived with a desire to learn more about the computers, software, and technology our world has been dominated by. Selecting my major in Computer Science, I took classes teaching me programming languages and best practices, design and algorithms, and courses that fulfilled a concentration on knowledge-based systems and databases. During my studies, I became proficient in software engineering best practices, data mining and analysis, and learning how to lead and contribute productivley to a team environment. I then graduated in four years in May 2021During my studies, I got my first work experience at a walk up help desk for one of our university Instructional Innovation & Technology computer labs, otherwise known as the CATLab. I started this position in March 2018 and left the position following my graduation in July 2021. It was with this opportunity that I got my first IT experience, and got to work on a dynamic and diverse team helping students and faculty by supporting the university\'s technology. I would perform cleaning and maintenance duties for the computers and equipment at the lab, facilitated password management for students, and first point of contact troubleshooting for any and all issues with university sites and software, personal laptops and phones and tablets. During the later part of my time there, I also helped train new hires for the lab as well. Overall, I had the most fun at a job during my time there! I gained an appreciation for technology support, learning commonplace troubleshooting steps and network infrastructure, and also had exposure to learning new technologies on the fly!Since graduating, I have held two entry level and intermediate help desk positions spanning the course of the past 3 years. My first position of the two was with Ranstad Technologies, where I worked from home working on a year and a half contract for the technology service desk of a major Fortune 500 insurance company. The second position was with Apex Systems, reporting to the Orlando corporate office of a well-established timeshare and resort company for two contracts totaling to 3 months over a 6 month period. Both roles were very similar, providing customer facing technical support to internal employees of the clients via phone, chat, and email channels. I supported the companies technology by giving frontline support for software, network, VPN, virtual desktop, and hardware troubleshooting for simple or complex technical issues.
