About Devin Carlen

Devin is a serial entrepreneur with over 29 years of industry experience in a variety of industries, including aerospace, cloud computing and many others. He combines a wide variety of experience in open source communities, enterprise software and more.Depending on the situation, he will use his skills as an individual contributor as an engineer, architect or technical lead. With many experiences as a technical co-founder, his skills also include managing teams, business development, investor relations, fundraising, compliance / ITGC controls, and sales engineering. Born in Huntsville, Alabama, he comes from a long line of aerospace work. His grandfather worked on the Apollo missions and his father worked on the solid rocket booster program for the space shuttle missions. In 2010, while working at the NASA Ames Research center, the first version of OpenStack was released. Devin was one of five founding engineers on this project, which quickly became the third largest open source project in history behind the Linux kernel and Chromium. OpenStack went on to provide the largest open source infrastructure as a service cluster in the world, utilizing over cores to power CERN and to support the Large Hadron Collider. Devin currently serves as Vice President of Software Engineering at Astra, building software to power Hall Effect space craft engines and low earth orbit delivery vehicles. Astra is the fastest company in history to achieve an orbital capability.
