About Derrick Wheatley
I am a higher education leader with a strong foundation in academic administration and instruction. My career began as an Assistant Academic Dean, a role I earned through demonstrated leadership, despite having no prior teaching experience. Recognizing the value of classroom insight, I spent over a decade teaching before returning to leadership as Department Chair of Business & Legal Studies. I now serve as Interim Dean of Business & Technologies, where I focus on driving strategic change and fostering student success across the division.Since joining Southwest, my mission has been to advance the college’s commitment to community impact. I believe in removing barriers to education and empowering teams to achieve shared goals.
