Derrick Shao is a seasoned and dynamic physiotherapist and business leader with a demonstrated history of excellence in the private healthcare industry. With a Master of Physiotherapy from the University of Sydney, recognized globally for its leadership in rehabilitation sciences, and an Honors Specialization in Kinesiology from Western University, Derrick has built a diverse career spanning clinical practice, healthcare management, and education.Currently, Derrick serves as an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Toronto’s Department of Physical Therapy within the Temerty Faculty of Medicine, where he mentors and inspires the next generation of physiotherapists. He is also a Mentor for Sports Physiotherapy Canada, fostering growth and excellence in sports rehabilitation across the country.Derrick’s professional expertise includes advanced certifications such as Orthopaedic Manual Therapy (CAMPT Level 3), Sports Physiotherapy Certification, and UBC Gunn IMS Dry Needling. His clinical specialties focus on injury management, high-performance sports, and orthopaedics, where he integrates evidence-based practice with innovative approaches to optimize patient outcomes. Derrick has worked with elite organizations like Cycling Canada, Alpine Canada Alpin, and the IIHF Women’s World Championship, providing high-level physiotherapy support for national and international events.In addition to his clinical and academic accomplishments, Derrick is passionate about healthcare entrepreneurship, clinic management, and business development. As the Clinic Director and Director of Growth & Strategy at Vaughan Physiotherapy Clinic, Derrick has led strategic initiatives to improve healthcare operations, expand patient access, and innovate service delivery. His expertise in healthcare operations and business analytics, honed through the Harvard Business School Online CORe Program, positions him as a leader in driving growth and operational excellence in the healthcare sector.Derrick is also a partner at Hillcroft Health Partners, a micro healthcare acquisition group actively seeking businesses to add to a growing portfolio.
