ABOUT DERRICK SWALLOW

Derrick Swallow is a transportation planner with deep expertise in bus rapid transit (BRT), bus speed and reliability, and corridor design. At TransLink, he has led planning for major BRT initiatives, including the King George Boulevard BRT and the regional prioritization of nine corridors, where he applied multi-criteria evaluations to balance ridership demand, land use integration, equity, and municipal support. His ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear frameworks has helped secure political approval and build consensus across municipalities. These projects, along with his work on other bus priority projects, strengthened his skills in stakeholder engagement and trade-off navigation—ensuring that transit-priority measures, alignment choices, and station siting advanced both regional objectives and local priorities.Complementing this, Derrick has advanced projects that directly enhance customer experience through station planning and bus integration. His leadership in the RapidBus Upgrade Program—including improvements along Hastings Street (R5) and the North Shore (R2)—involved optimizing station amenities, service integration, and bus priority measures to improve reliability and usability. Earlier work on RapidBus service planning, consultation, and travel time estimation further honed his ability to design networks and station interfaces that balance operational efficiency with seamless customer journeys. Across these projects, Derrick has consistently demonstrated how thoughtful planning of stations, services, and corridors can deliver both immediate operational improvements and long-term growth in transit ridership.
