ABOUT DERRICK PINA

Portfolio: am a dynamic product design leader with 20+ years of experience producing and shipping compelling products for millions of users across the globe. I am a detail oriented problem solver, with expertise in all stages of the product design lifecycle, from concept to production. In my most recent role I lead a design team of four to launch Fubo Sportsbook, a companion sportsbook for FuboTV. I worked closely with product and FuboTV design teams to launch the book in four states with integrations and brand language consistent with FuboTV. Directed creation of Figma libraries and projects, organized Jira structure and ceremonies, and worked closely with outside partners to integrate services such as banking and odds display. In my previous role I was the design lead for ESPN Fantasy Sports. Our team was responsible for driving the improvement of our season-long League Manager games, producing Tournament Challenge, the industry leading March Madness bracket game, and developing new casual style games, such as our turnkey Pick’em games platform. Our recent focus has been on attracting new demographics to our games by making them more approachable, easier to play, accessible, and inclusive. I was also a major contributor to the Disney DMED Prism design system, which powers products such as Disney.com, ABC, and National Geographic. As a manager, I believe in giving my team every opportunity to shine by taking ownership of their projects, delivering them focused feedback, and encouraging them to share their work with leadership.Previously at ESPN, I was responsible for live and automated features on ESPN.com and ESPN App features such as scoreboards, Gamecast, World Cup soccer microsites, and interactive touchscreen experiences that were featured on Sportscenter and other studio shows. My team and I also designed and built several long form editorial pieces including “The Long Strange Trip of Dock Ellis”, which the New York Times cited as inspiration for their Pulitzer prize winning “Snowfall” feature. Before joining ESPN, I advanced the web presences as a designer/developer at West World Media, The Society of Plastics Engineers, and Kuhne & Nagel Logistics. I led major site redesigns at all three of these companies, and the Society of Plastics Engineers site won a 2005 WebAward in the non-profit organization category.
