About Derrick D. Webb

Derrick D. Webb is a native of the historic Montgomery, Alabama. As a first-generation student, Derrick graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a minor in Chemistry from Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, in 2023. He has served on advisory committees for the Human Rights Campaign, Student National Medical Association, and United Negro College Fund (UNCF). In the Summer of 2021, he was a Leadership Alliance Summer Research Early Identification Program (SR-EIP) fellow at The Johns Hopkins History of Medicine Institute, researching the histories of racial medical trauma in the Alabama Black Community. The following Summer, he completed the SR-EIP at Yale University, examining the Black Panther Party’s influence and contribution to healthcare activism for underrepresented groups. Derrick is passionate about serving, learning, and engaging with the world. He has garnered numerous accolades, including being a Mellon Humanities Fellow at Yale and Johns Hopkins University, an American Heart Association HBCU Scholar, a United Health Diversity in Healthcare Scholar, a CDC Health Equity Fellow, and a Footlocker Incorporated Scholar. In the Summer of 2023, Derrick was accepted into the Black Leadership Retreat to Israel, representing his alma mater internationally in both Israel and Palestine. He is also the recipient of the prestigious 2023 UNCF Achievement Capstone Award from UNCF and the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which recognizes exceptional individuals who embody the spirit of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. Derrick is a Health Equity Scholar at Brown University, pursuing his Master of Public Health (MPH) in Global, Maternal, & Child Health. He holds dual appointments in the School of Public Health and Warren Alpert School of Medicine as a Clinical Research Assistant at the Rhode Island Hospital and Department of Corrections, researching incarcerated individuals at risk of acquiring HIV. Derrick aims to improve healthcare outcomes for underrepresented and marginalized communities.
