ABOUT DERRICK BAKER
I help rail, heritage and specialist engineering organisations turn incomplete, outdated or missing engineering information into usable modern engineering data. My work typically involves: legacy drawing interpretation reverse engineering of obsolete or undocumented parts 3D scanning scan-to-CAD modelling drawing rationalisation engineering outputs to support procurement, manufacture, maintenance and redesign A lot of valuable engineering knowledge still exists only in old drawing packs, damaged copies, physical parts, or systems where the original design intent is no longer clear. That is where I do my best work — rebuilding usable engineering information from legacy assets and fragmented data. I often describe this as engineering archaeology: interpreting what exists, identifying what matters, and creating clear, accurate engineering outputs that can be used with confidence. My background includes work across rail, manufacturing and product design, with a strong practical focus on design for manufacture and real-world engineering application. The aim is not just to produce CAD models, but to create information that is genuinely useful for decision-making, fabrication, procurement, maintenance and future development. If you are dealing with legacy drawings, obsolete parts, missing CAD data, or the challenge of turning old engineering information into something usable today, I would be glad to connect.
