About Derric Francis

Let me lead off my stating my background is humble for which I am extremely thankful. I grew up in the small town of Rio comprised of less than people and am a small-town farm boy at heart. I grew up on a Christmas tree farm, and you will still find me working on my home turf intermittently to this day.(A fair price for hunting rights to said farm). My favorite pass time is hunting (bowhunting whitetails predominantly), which led me to my first start-up - Hunt Butler, an online platform where landowners find hunters to lease their land. The plan was grand as we took first place in the WI Governor\'s Business Plan Competition, but I expect growth to stall as I pursue my core competencies in accounting and finance. Besides hunting, I enjoy playing basketball, and I love opportunities to help my home town high school athletics programs when time permits - mainly through involvement with the Rio Athletic Booster Club. I have been on the receiving end of great mentorship, and I feel that it is my duty to \"pay it forward.\" The Booster Club is a small step in fulfilling that duty. Professionally, my journey began as a tax and audit associate at Miller, Brussels, Ebben, and Glaeske CPA firm where I worked mainly with municipalities and school districts and passed my Series 66/7 exams to provide retirement advice to our tax clients. A few years later, I was approached by BKD and offered a position as an Assurance Associate. It was a tough decision, but given the mentality and the resources of the larger national firm, I felt that my interest would be best served making the transition to the Madison market. Currently, I am embracing the increased duties of the Senior Audit Associate role while remaining diligent to satisfy my longstanding interest in the financial markets. I am increasing my financial market acumen by working to pass Level II of the CFA examination with the goal of working with financial institution clients in a greater capacity in the future.
