ABOUT DEREK TAN
I am the Region Controller for Waste Connections of Canada (NYSE/TSX: WCN) and oversee the Accounting/Finance team across Canada. We operate in six provinces and generate $1.7b in annual revenue. My role is to protect the integrity of the financial statements, mentor and develop over 30 CPA professionals, uphold our core operating values, and ultimately grow the business. I am also responsible for financial due diligence, integration of acquisitions, financial analysis, large municipal pro formas, and optimization of free cash flow and working capital. Aside from work, I spend most evenings chasing my two dogs! My curiosity on the psychology of decision making and econometrics led me down an academic path many moons ago. I follow the New England Patriots religiously and will race anything on wheels. I love working out, eating amazing food, and traveling the world.
