About Derek Henley
My professional experience includes over 2 years of experience as an Oncology Regional Medical Scientist for GlaxoSmithKline, wherein I have focused on developing relationships with key external experts in the field of oncology, facilitated investigator-inititiated and industry-sponsored preclinical and clinical research, and provided support to sales and marketing. I also have attained leadership experience in this role as the head of a therapeutic brand team for the oncology regional medical scientist organization. Duties include developing and implementing plans of action, coordinating and conducting meetings, collaborating with sales and marketing, and developing and conducting training for the oncology medical scientist group and the national oncology sales and marketing team.In addition, with my graduate and postdoctoral training I have close to 9 years of laboratory and basic science experience in the areas of endocrinology, toxicology, oncology and inflammation. I have designed and conducted novel, independent research in these areas that has resulted in numerous first author publications. Further experience includes teaching undergraduate and high school level science courses, tutoring graduate level science courses, and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. My goal is to continue to work in the pharmaceutical industry in a setting that allows me to utilize both my basic science and clinical backgrounds.Specialties: Medical science liaison, oncology, endocrinology, inflammation, toxicology, basic science, clinical research, leadership.
