CoLife makes it safe and easy to rent a room in a home. Rent is too high. At the same time, there are 24 million single homeowners with extra space in their homes. The housing solution to this problem used to be the boarding house. Up until WWII, up to half of US urban dwellers lived in boarding houses, a privately owned home occupied by the homeowner that rents out at least one room. By making it safe and easy for homeowners to rent a room in their home again, we are creating affordable units for a few hundred dollars each while solving isolation, American’s greatest health risk. CoLife is backed by Alpaca VC (ClassPass, Compass, etc.), Social Leverage (Robinhood, Wag), Platform Venture Studio (Tim Connors, ex-Sequoia who invested in 6 unicorns, and Jeremy Burton, one of the founders of one of those unicorns), and angels investors including the former head of technology from The Carlyle Group, executives from Greystar (more housing units under management than anyone in the world), and employees from Uber, Instacart, Google, and a whole lot more.
