ABOUT DEREK PORTER
I am an independent school leader with over a decade of experience advancing teaching excellence, student life, and strategic priorities across JK–12 settings. My work bridges instructional leadership, equity and inclusion, and organizational strategy, with a focus on building faculty cultures that are both sustainable and student-centered.Currently, I serve as Associate Director of Equity & Inclusion at Greenhill School (Dallas, TX), where I- Partner with senior leadership and the Board to align policy with mission- Chair accreditation and strategic planning committees- Lead professional development and coaching to strengthen faculty practice- Oversee belonging initiatives for students, employees, and families.Previously, as Research Coordinator at St. Christopher’s School (VA), I guided faculty action research, partnered with division heads on professional learning, and launched a school-based research program now modeled internationally. Nationally, I have presented at IBSC, NCHE, VAIS, and Learning Forward, and my publications on teacher burnout, school culture, and professional learning reflect my commitment to shaping the field.I help schools- Strengthen faculty capacity through professional learning and leadership development- Advance student life and belonging through program design and advisory reform- Align strategic planning, accreditation, and culture with mission.I believe the best independent schools thrive when faculty joy and student belonging fuel excellence.
