ABOUT DEREK NOWAK

Interests: Nanoplasmonic structures and their application to microscopy for sensitive high resolution optical spectroscopic information below the diffraction limit of optical light. Techniques include Raman, fluorescence, and photoluminescence spectroscopic signals. Further interests include microscope hardware design, through embedded processing combined with analog circuit design, and open source hardware design dissemination techniques.Specialties: Multiple types of scanning probe microscopy (traditional AFM and newer hybrid techniques), charge beam microscopes, multiphoton excitation techniques, general optical microscopy techniques, practical laser implementation (pulsed systems and diode based systems) and microscope hardware design and automation.Good working knowledge: Nanopositioning techniques (piezo amplifiers, piezo mechanical drive techniques, and piezo mechanical resonance considered design)
