About Derek Holmer
A true urbanite, I believe in the power for good design and good planning to not only improve people\'s lives but also to create healthier and more exuberant cities. Taking a systems-based approach, I see the challenges facing our cities today as a result of a lack of understanding the ecological aspects of design. Cities are living organisms and design must reflect that. I\'m greatly influenced by the theories of Landscape Urbanism: Charles Waldheim, James Corner, Kate Orff, and others practicing this ecological approach to design. My buzzwords are: resilience, ecological design, landscape urbanism, living, systems, green stormwater infrastructure, transportation and mobility, and bicycle urbanism.\"Make no little plans; they have no magic to stir [one]\'s blood and probably themselves will not be realized. Make big plans; aim high in hope and work.\"-Daniel Burnham
