About Dennis Hooper

I serve organizational leaders by coaching them in serving their direct reports more effectively. I\'m also a writer. Please freely access almost 500 articles on various aspects of leadership! Go to: To find something valuable for YOU, use the search box at the top of the page. Put in \"trust,\" or \"collaboration,\" or \"servant leadership\"(or whatever interests you) and use what pops up! Then, please provide me with feedback on how the article helped you or could be improved. Send your thoughts in an email to d•••••@buildingfutureleaders.com. I welcome your suggestions for improvement and your ideas for future articles! And I will respond promptly with a personal \"Thank you!\" I\'m an independent, experienced executive coach who has both practical and book knowledge about leadership. Early in my Procter & Gamble days (50+ years ago), I had less awareness and skill than responsibility. To survive in that competitive environment, I learned all I could about leadership. I now help others generate a personal growth path, much more quickly and effectively than I did mine! I support Atlanta leaders who want to improve their organizations\' cultures, processes, and results. The leverage for doing so is enhancing the quality and depth of leadership in the organization. Only the top leaders of an organization can create the priority to make that happen. When they do, the challenge and support I offer stimulate huge improvements. I\'ve coached organizational leaders for twenty-plus years (after 23 years in leadership roles in Procter & Gamble and 7 years as an internal leadership consultant within the Weyerhaeuser Company). Certified in 2002 as a coach by the FranklinCovey Leadership Institute, I help already healthy organizations move in the direction of genuine excellence and servant leadership. I can help your leadership team eliminate the obstacles that stand between where the organization is now and where you want to take it. Intuitively, you realize that your organization will need future leaders. However, they won\'t just appear! If you don\'t develop them now, you\'ll have to \"buy\" them later-and that will create a frustrating set of internal dynamics among your existing loyal team members! Together, let\'s build your and your organization\'s leadership capacity. You win, your direct reports win, your team members win, and your customers win. That\'s the only way I play! I am happily married, with one daughter, a son-in-law, and one grandson; he is the reason I moved to Atlanta fifteen years ago!

Experience

  1. Executive Coach

    Building Future Leaders

Apr 2001 — Present · Atlanta, GA, US

My email address is d•••••@buildingfutureleaders.com. If you are a leader needing encouragement, challenge, support, or just a listening ear, contact me-no charge for an exploratory conversation! My clients are managers and leaders who seek to improve already healthy cultures and processes and are moving their organizations in the direction of genuine excellence. I do my work online and in person in the Atlanta, Georgia area.Working with leadership teams, I coach each individual privately. We identify each person\'s strengths and limitations, then we build a personalized enhancement plan. I also conduct group sessions to enhance the team\'s awareness of critical leadership concepts. Each individual supports other leadership team members\' unique strengths and growth areas. Many organizations have only an anecdotal approach to building leadership skills. While guiding leaders through an intentional step-by-step process, I train one individual to be the ongoing \"owner\" of the system of building future leaders. After my involvement for a year, clients use this process to develop the skills of any organization member (with no further involvement from me).My dominant talent themes (from the Gallup organization\'s StrengthsFinder Profile) are significant in the ways I support my clients-maximizer-relator-learner-analytical-individualization-connectednessMy VIA Character Strengths are-love of learning-gratitude-love-curiosity-honestyI was trained and certified as a coach in 2002 by the FranklinCovey Leadership Institute. Coaching is an unregulated profession. Anyone can claim to be a coach without taking the time or commitment to gain the skills. I chose to attend a recognized school, do the work, incur the financial expense, and earn the associated accreditation so that you would have competent, honorably motivated, and reliable service. Most of my clients come by referral from existing satisfied leaders (see their recommendations below)!
