ABOUT DENISE R. DUARTE
Denise R. Duarte is a multi-disciplinary, socially-engaged artist and graphic designer/digital marketer. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Community Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art. She earned the Graphic Design Certificate and the Digital Marketing Certificate from the UNLV Continuing Education.She received two Las Vegas Mayor’s Urban Design Awards for Public Art as a design team member for \"Ancestral Gateway\" and for \"Flourish\". She has completed eight public art projects plus facilitated numerous community art projects. She was accepted into the U.S. General Services Administration Art in Architecture Program Artist Registry, ArtsWA Public Art Roster, the City of San Antonio’s Pre-Qualified List for Public Artists and the Nevada Arts Council Artist in Schools +Communities Roster, Education and Community Tracks. She was listed on Creative Capital\'s “On Our Radar” in 2015.Denise serves as President for Women of Diversity Productions, Inc. Previously, she co-authored the 2017 & 2018 Gaming Gender Equality Index, a report revealing survey results of 21 casino and gaming corporations rating their policies, practices and commitment to gender equality. Previously, she was the Community Arts Specialist with the Nevada Arts Council, the Director of Development for Left of Center Art Gallery and Clark County\'s Public Art Cultural Specialist, where she wrote the National Endowment for the Arts Our Town grant for the Maryland Parkway Public Art Urban Design Plan.In Maryland, she originated a LGBTQ youth art program \"Express Yourself\", created GLCCB\'s Artist in Residence position and established the LGBTQ History and Archives Project.She was in leadership in several women\'s organizations and Chair of Stand OUT For Equality, the advocacy arm of The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada and founded Equality Days in 2009, the first officially recognized day by the Nevada Legislature for the LGBTQ community. Equality Days was a major influence for the passage of Nevada’s Domestic Partnership bill. Subsequently, she initiated the Nevada LGBTQI Leadership Coalition.Duarte has authored over 30 articles on art, feminist and LGBTQ issues in a variety of publications such as sculpture.org, Baltimore OUTloud, Gay Life and the Washington Blade. During Denise’s 18-year corporate career in the insurance/financial services field, she experienced and witnessed the negative impact of discrimination and injustice as an employee and as a manager. This has fueled her quest for equality for all people.
