I provide leadership and direction for command staff and supervisory staff, which is integral in ensuring that the Police Department upholds its Mission Statement and Core Values, while promoting transparency and responsiveness to community needs. I am directly involved in the development, implementation, and maintenance of Bureau and Department standards, goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. I am well versed in the preparation and presentation of staff reports and other necessary documents or correspondence to appropriate persons, boards, groups, and/or committees. I collaborate and coordinate response to citywide issues with other bureaus, divisions, city programs, and law enforcement organizations, as well as provide information and resources to city officials and other organizations.Additionally, I attend and participate in organizational and community meetings, confer with community members and City officials on law enforcement problems, while cultivating good community relations by working with civic, fraternal, and other community groups, and serving as Acting Police Chief as assigned during the absence of the Police Chief.

ABOUT DENISE SHADINGER MOREHOUSE
With 29 years of experience in law enforcement, my career has been shaped by a variety of roles and a commitment to strong leadership. From starting as a Reserve Peace Officer to rising to Assistant Chief, I’ve tackled every challenge with adaptability and dedication.In 2017, I achieved the role of Commander, where I led the Patrol Support and Professional Standards Divisions. Overseeing key units like Traffic, Special Events, Internal Affairs, and Hiring/Recruiting, I have worked to establish a high standard of excellence across the board.By 2021, I was honored to be selected as an Assistant Chief. I have experience leading all three bureaus—Field Services, Investigations, and Administrative Services—guiding the direction and growth of our agency.Outside of my law enforcement career, I’m passionate about giving back to the community and mentoring the next generation. I mentor women and girls through the United Way’s Women Unite Program and the Oxnard Police Activities League. I’m an active Soroptimist International of Oxnard member, supporting women and girls in their journey toward economic empowerment.As a lifelong learner, I’m always looking for opportunities to grow both personally and professionally. I’ve earned my Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Kaplan University and my Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University. I also have a deep passion for travel, as exploring new cultures and perspectives fuels my growth and helps me approach challenges with a fresh outlook.As I continue to serve, I’m excited to use my experience, leadership, and passion for mentoring to make a positive impact wherever I can.
