ABOUT DENIS KINANE

Dean Denis F. Kinane BDS, PhD, FDSRCS, FDSRCP I have been in academia for 35 years serving in various capacities at Universities, in Europe and the USA. My research and teaching focus is clinical, molecular genetics, cell biology, pathology and immunology. I have held Professorial appointments in Pathology, Periodontology and Otolaryngology at the Penn Medicine. I was 9 years as Dean of UPenn Dental school and before that 8 years as Research Dean at University of Louisville, and Glasgow University for 15 years. I have an h stat of >85 with more than 240 peer-reviewed papers and more than 100 chapters, articles and contributions, with innumerable presentations nationally and globally. I have brought in more than $15M in research funding, and raised >$50M for academia. I am chairman of SwiftDx, Cambridge Diagnostics Ltd. I am editor of Current Oral Health Reports. Current research enhancing diagnostics for infectious diseases, cancer genomics and disease susceptibility and risk.When I began at Penn nine years ago the school was in debt with deferred maintenance needs. The school was turned around financially, with teaching, research and clinics modernized. In 2012 we completed a campaign that raised $37M then began an eight-year $80M campaign — with $22.5M raised in FY16. I am adept in developing academic and research revenue streams and effectively acted as CEO of 14 health clinics and a health insurance plan, which increased enrollment and revenues by 40% in 3 years.Talent Recruitment and Retention and Development are major strengths. At Penn I recruited some of the very best minds in dentistry, and we went from 14th to 2nd position within 5 years, while maintaining broad excellence. At Louisville I took the school from 37th place in NIH research ranking to 11th. Currently I am Professor University of Bern, CMO and co-founder of CIGNPOST DIAGNOSTIC, Director of two large health companies (US and China), research board of a third (Taiwan) and CEO of a pharma start-up focused on inflammatory, infective and cancer formulations. I chair Cambridge Diagnostics/SwiftDx. I am insatiably curious, challenge seeking and massively committed and successful in all I do.
