ABOUT DENIS CHARTRAND

Mr. Chartrand has an extensive experience in the field of electrical distribution. Having worked for Hydro-Québec throughout his entire career, he has brought an unmeasurable expertise and value to the projects in which participated. In addition to having served on various steering committees such as, advanced metering, electric transportation and network evolution plan, Mr. Chartrand was responsible for the supervision of all the areas of technology at Hydro-Québec Distribution. Mr. Chartrand has directed teams comprising 5 to 12 managers, and 20 to 400 employees. Mr. Chartrand has also managed large annual project portfolios in the excess of $ 600 million. Mr. Chartrand has represented Hydro-Québec on strategic committees including the Canadian Electrical Association (CEA) as president of the Distribution Council and the Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) as a voting member of the Power Distribution and Energy Utilization Council. Relevant Achievements Summary • Development of evolution strategies for the distribution network, incorporating technological developments from the Hydro-Québec Transmission & Generation divisions • Design and implementation of an Asset Management program • Development and implementation of SmartGrid network initiatives • Creating the architecture and standards for the Hydro-Quebec Distribution network. • Development and implementation of the Distribution Network hardening following the 1998 ice storm in Québec • Development and implementation of Distribution Automation and Volt/VAR Control • Integration of distributed generation • Initiator of service reliability and quality concept for all of the Distribution products components. • Key contributor to Hydro-Quebec’s Strategic Plan submitted to the Energy board of Québec. • Leader of the re-engineering in the context of the implementation of a Work Force Management initiative. • In charge of governance for the R&D and Information technology portfolios
