ABOUT DELSO BATISTA
Delso Batista (He/Him) is a psychologist, psychotherapist, and researcher with an interdisciplinary career spanning clinical practice, community wellbeing, and critical scholarship. He holds a PhD in Psychology from Nottingham Trent University (awarded in December 2025) and a Master’s degree in Psychology, Psychotherapy, and Counselling. Delso is a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP, BACP a Graduate Member of the British Psychological Society (BPS), a EuroPsy Psychologist accredited by the EFPA, and a member of the Portuguese Psychologists Order (OPP Nº25359).Throughout his work, Delso has focused on LGBTQIA+ lived experiences, migration and immigration, racialisation, trauma, and the intersections of decolonisation and psychology. His clinical practice is informed by integrative and relational approaches, with a strong emphasis on reflexivity, cultural humility, and social justice. He currently collaborates with the online psychology and psychotherapy platform RUMO and Docklands Outreach in London, providing psychological support to diverse, often marginalised communities.Alongside his clinical work, Delso has been actively involved in the design and delivery of community-based wellbeing initiatives. He has contributed to programmes developed with The Black Wellbeing Collective, including the Taking Care of You programme (2023), an eight-week wellbeing intervention delivered in partnership with Justice Initiative Together. This programme addressed burnout, vicarious trauma, and racialised stress among professionals working in the migration and refugee sector, using creative, person-centred, and culturally responsive therapeutic practices grounded in lived experience.Delso is the author of Posso te tratar por tu?(Urutau, 2022) and Tudo é Racismo? Pensar o racismo e entender a psicologia (RUMO, 2024) works that bridge academic scholarship, clinical reflection, and public engagement. His contributions have been recognised through several awards, including the Prémio FIBE 2025 (Doctoral Category) from the Fórum de Integração Brasil Europa for his doctoral research, and the Oral Best Paper Award at EIRAI – Excellence in Research and Innovation (2022), for work on coloniality, racism, and dreaming in Portuguese higher education psychology.Across research, practice, and community engagement, Delso’s work is grounded in a commitment to liberation, wellbeing, and the co-creation of ethical, decolonial alternatives within psychology.
