About Delaney Laird
I have been passionate about accounting since I took my first course on the subject my freshman year of college at the University of North Texas. I knew immediately it was the career path I desired, and I quickly took the steps to lay the foundation for my education and career as a future CPA. I joined Beta Alpha Psi and other business organizations to build my network, and successfully earned an offer to intern at the Big 4 accounting firm, KPMG eight months after completing my first accounting course. I crammed as many classes as I could each semester, and from this, plus many hours of high school credit, I was able to graduate Summa Cum Laude with both my Bachelor of Science in Accounting and my Master of Science in Audit and Assurance in just four years. My education at UNT prepared me to be well versed in many essential business platforms such as Alteryx, Power BI, Microsoft Access, and Tableau. I’m also MS Excel Expert certified. Currently, I’m a first year associate in the audit practice of KPMG in the Dallas office. I am thankful for the knowledge I gained from my internship at KPMG in the winter of 2023, which allowed me to work on both public and private company engagements. I have analyzed SOC 1 and 2 compliance documentation, travelled to a Fortune 500 company client site to interact with the executives to further understand their business processes, and prepared audit workpapers relating to substantive procedures, tests of controls, legal documentation and disclosures, among many other audit processes. I’m most interested in asset management, which is the industry of the engagement I am currently assigned to full time. I am ambitious, career oriented and future focused. I’m excited to expand my knowledge and skills and continue my career in public accounting for the foreseeable future. I am currently pursuing my CPA license and actively studying for the exams.
