About Dipyaman Sanyal

I am the ceo of dōnō consulting. A consultant and educator who has been traversing the world of industry and academia for twenty years. I spent most of my corporate life in financial markets in New York as a quantitative and financial analyst for companies like Dow Jones, The Blackstone Group, REIS (now Moody’s), Sorin Capital, and Thomson Reuters (in Bangalore) and co-founded dōnō consulting in 2013. At dōnō, we work on helping clients take better decisions with data - using ML-AI, big data engineering, financial modeling, statistical modeling, and many new paradigms in data science and data driven decision making. Our projects are usually short (a few months), highly technical and challenging, and cutting edge. We have worked with over 50 clients across five continents in the last decade. For my consulting work I was honored as 40-under-40 in data science in 2019. As an educator, I led some of India’s leading data science programs in collaboration with institutions like the University of Chicago, Northwestern University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. All four data science and machine learning programs I ran were ranked in the top-10 data science programs in India in the last 10 years, including the #1 and #2 slots. For my teaching I was thrice awarded the Most Prominent Data Science Academics in India (2017, 2018 and 2022). I gave up leading academic programs in late 2022 to focus completely on running dōnō, but continue to teach at Northwestern University, Chicago, which has been my academic home since 2018.Along with dōnō, I am also a co-founder of PropMath, a very early stage startup and the chief data scientist at bdec.in. A CFA charter holder and UK Commonwealth Scholar, I have a MS in Applied Economics from University of Texas at Dallas, a MA and BA in Economics from Jadavpur University and recently submitted my PhD at one of India’s leading institutions of higher education, Jawaharlal Nehru University.
